Project Management
The Devil is in the Detail

Being appointed to manage a strategically important Super Yacht project is a mixed blessing.  On the one hand success can result in your making your mark on the business and gaining prominence in the company.  On the other, failure to achieve targets will typically gain you similar prominence but is likely to be somewhat less career enhancing.

Large Modern Yachts are complex things.  In other words, there’s lots that can go wrong.  Some of the potential problems may be evident from the outset.  Others, however, will be less immediately apparent and form pitfalls lying in wait for the unwary.

Many make the mistake of approaching project planning as simply a matter of sketching a few key milestones on a Gantt Chart which then hangs on the office wall as testament to how things were expected to turn out until it all went so horribly wrong.

It is not.  Planning is about thinking.  It is about thinking through the complexity involved in the Yacht build.  It is about identifying all the different tasks involved in delivering the Yacht, how they need to be coordinated, what resources they require and how these will be secured and delivered.  It’s about identifying the potential risks and addressing how one will deal with such contingencies.  Fundamentally, planning is about gaining control over events and putting yourself in a position to be able to steer the project to successful completion on time and on budget.

Planning is critically important.  It is the greatest single determinant of a Super Yachts likely success.  Williamson-Consulting offers you the practical project planning expertise of those who have actually done the job before many times to ensure that the management of your project is based on sound foundations.
